The Legacy of Dr. Beverly A. Jaramillo
A Life of Healing and Teaching
Dr. Beverly A. Jaramillo was a surgeon whose skilled hands saved countless lives, but her heart was always drawn to a deeper calling—education and nurturing the moral character of those around her. Born into a family of boundless curiosity and compassion, Beverly’s life was a tapestry woven with adventure, learning, and an unwavering commitment to living in the moment.
Her story, as she shared in her own words, is not one of endings but of beginnings—beginnings that continue to inspire through the foundation she established to carry forward her passion for education and ethical growth.
Raised by parents who embodied honesty, compassion, and a zest for life, Beverly’s childhood was a kaleidoscope of experiences. From kite flying to fine dining, from exploring the mysteries of the Coral Castle to cheering at Formula One races, her parents instilled in her a love for the world’s wonders and a belief that no task was impossible. They taught her to embrace every moment, a lesson that became the cornerstone of her life. As she wrote, “The biggest gift my parents gave me was to learn to be happy in the moment.” This philosophy guided her through a life filled with both triumphs and challenges.
As a surgeon in Pennsylvania, Beverly’s professional life was demanding, often tethering her to a more grounded existence than the adventurous spirit of her youth. Yet, even within the confines of her career, she found joy in learning and self-discovery. Her passion for education extended beyond the operating room—she was a lifelong student, always seeking new knowledge, whether through coursework, spiritual exploration, or the wisdom found in the quiet moments spent with her beloved horse, Annie. “She has always been my rock,” Beverly wrote of Annie, a one-in-a-universe companion who joined her on trails, fox hunts, and countless adventures that fed her soul.
Beverly’s love for education was not just about acquiring knowledge but about sharing it to uplift others. She believed deeply in the power of listening—to the soul, not just the words—and in fostering moral character. Her parents’ superpowers of compassion and nonjudgmental listening became her own, and she used them to guide friends, family, and even strangers toward their own truths. Inspired by works like Eckhart Tolle’s The Power of Now and the film The Art of Racing in the Rain, she embraced life’s challenges as opportunities for growth, approaching even the most difficult moments with humor and faith: “What is it God? Can you give me a clue as to what I am supposed to learn from this mess?”
Though her life was cut short, Beverly’s vision endures through the foundation she founded to honor her parents. The Jaramillo Foundation is dedicated to empowering young minds through education and instilling the values she held dear: compassion, integrity, and the courage to live fully in each moment. The foundation supports scholarships for students pursuing various careers, mentorship programs to nurture ethical leadership, and community initiatives that promote kindness and collaboration—values Beverly saw as essential to restoring the world’s greatness.
Her regrets were few but poignant: not witnessing the milestones of those she loved, from graduations to new beginnings. Yet, as she wrote, “I will be watching. Just from a different vantage point.” Through the foundation, Beverly’s presence remains, guiding others to “enjoy the journey” as she did. Her legacy is a reminder that life’s hardest paths, walked with faith and good intent, lead to profound lessons and lasting impact.
In the spirit of her favorite poem, Warrior II by Leza Lowitz, Beverly was a true warrior—staying in the moment, burning deeper into whatever came, and teaching others to do the same. The Jaramillo Foundation stands as a beacon of her belief that education, compassion, and moral character can transform lives, ensuring that her light continues to shine for generations to come.

Jaramillo mission
We provide scholarships and educational support to high school and college students who demonstrate strong moral character, leadership potential, and financial need. We believe integrity and ambition deserve real opportunity.
Our programs recognize students who show honesty, courage, and accountability, and who are committed to making a positive impact in their communities. We prioritize equity by addressing barriers linked to socioeconomic status.
Through financial aid, mentorship, and educational resources, we empower students to pursue academic success and personal growth. Our work helps shape future leaders who uphold values of service and responsibility.
Our vision
We envision a world where every young person with integrity and ambition has access to higher education, regardless of financial circumstances. No student should be denied opportunity due to economic hardship. We believe that talent and moral character should be the foundations of opportunity—not privilege or wealth.
By identifying and supporting individuals with strong moral character, leadership potential, and a commitment to community impact, we help create a generation of empowered changemakers. These students will contribute to a more just, inclusive, and compassionate society, leading with courage, purpose, and vision.
